Arla Foods Westbury Dairy

Effluent Feasibility Study

Tell Me More

ARL Consulting worked closely with Arla Foods at the Westbury dairy to establish their requirements in terms of the technical and commercial details of the project going forward to implementation. To find out how we can help you, please call now on 01244 344233 or use the "contact us" form below.

As part of the dairys continual commitment to the environment, and especially all areas of aqueous discharge from the site, Arla Westbury are currently considering supplementing the existing DAF effluent treatment facility. ARL Consulting have been appointed to evaluate potential effluent treatment processes and technologies and this includes a consideration of advanced biological systems, looking at both aerobic and anaerobic options.

The study has also included a consideration of all elements of effluent management, including technical and commercial considerations, as well as the options for disposal associated with producing very high quality effluent.

As with all dairy industry projects of this nature, the study has to take into account commercial considerations of 'waste' management as well as technical and engineering solutions. For example, a source of highly biodegradable COD from the dairy, which may be advantageous to the proposed anaerobic process, may also be considered as an energy rich by-product for beneficial use elsewhere in the food and drink industry.

This further demonstrates the importance of understanding the operations of the site and the dairy industry in general, and not just the potential engineering solutions.
